Gilbert Collard, Damien Rieu… Eric Zemmour trains his team by drawing from Marine Le Pen

As the first round of the presidential election is fast approaching, three National Rally executives have joined the ranks of Eric Zemmour.

Marine Le Pen has members of her political party robbed. It all started this Thursday, January 20, with the announcement of the departure of two lieutenants of the presidential candidate: Jérôme Rivière, the leader of the MEPs of the National Rally and Damien Rieu, the co-founder of Génération identitaire. The two politicians announced that they had left the navy blue ship to join… Eric Zemmour, the former polemicist who became head of the Reconquête! party. Two weight losses for Marine Le Pen.

The first, Jérôme Rivière, had joined the National Front in 2015, after having cut his teeth under the colors of the UMP and alongside Philippe de Villiers. Since 2019 and his election to the European Parliament, he had become the boss of RN MEPs. His rallying to the Reconquest candidate! arrives a few months after the latter offered him, without success, to be his campaign manager. On his side, Damien Rieu had joined the extreme right as a teenager. Close to Marion Maréchal, he stood out for having carried out highly publicized actions with his movement, Génération identitaire, now dissolved.

Marine Le Pen: “I have an old experience of presidential campaigns”

And this Friday, January 21, an even more important figure on the French political scene joined them: Gilbert Collard. It was in a live on Facebook that the lawyer made his big announcement. A weighty recruit for Eric Zemmour, who is aiming for nothing more than a stormy face-to-face with Emmanuel Macron in the second round of the next presidential election. With these new headliners, the far-right polemicist gives himself the means. For her part, Marine Le Pen wanted to minimize these departures, which she considers not that important: “I have an old experience of presidential campaigns. That people feel closer to a candidate rather than to another, it is not to be criticized. But in politics too, one can act with righteousness. The technique of the salami consisting every day in announcing a rally, I know it by heart.
