Gilbert Montagné: the singer “very embarrassed” when talking about Johnny Hallyday

Gilbert Montagné is currently being promoted for a brand new project he has embarked on: the release of a children’s book, entitled Lunaciel. This work is all the more close to the singer’s heart because it aims to raise children’s awareness of blindness.

Gilbert Montagné “I miss Johnny a lot”

During his interview on RTL, Gilbert Montagné came to talk about Johnny Hallyday, a friend dear to his heart. The 80s singer was very emotional at the time: “I miss Johnny a lot, really”he first confided, before continuing: He was the one who really made me want to sing. He then returned to a complicated period of his life, where Johnny came to his aid by inviting him to go on stage with him in 1979: “I was coming back from the United States and he gave me an extraordinary welcome that I will never forget. Gilbert Montagné “Some nurses thought I was not going to survive”

During his portrait in 50 minutes Inside, Gilbert Montagné confided in a completely different subject: his blindness and his birth. The singer very freely confided in Nikos Aliagas, explaining that he almost died when he came into the world : “They weren’t expecting me and they didn’t know because there was no ultrasound. They told mom I was a fibroid, so they weren’t expecting me at allhe first delivered, explaining also that the oxygen that the doctors had to ingest him so that he could survive burned his optic nerves and thus caused his blindness: “I remember the different speeches that the nurses had. Some thought that I was not going to survive. Then there are others who thought ‘But what are we going to do with him? What will he do ? He will end up blind'”he continued, explaining that in 1951, the fact of “end up blind” was considered a “calamity”: “People gave you loser right away”he confided.

During his exchange with Nikos, Gilbert Montagné also returned to his divorce, which he experienced very badly. The singer had already confided in this subject in the columns of Gala in 2018: “The end of my marriage had led a drastic life change : I had left Quebec to return to France, but my children had stayed on the other side of the Atlantic and it was not easy at all. […] It’s not easy to rebuild your lifeto say to yourself ‘we start again’ when you are burned by a difficult divorce”he explained.
