Italian star Gina Lollobrigida will stand in the next general elections in Italy. At 95 years old.
“To well-born souls, value does not wait for the number of years”, but in the context of Italian politics, it is rather the opposite that occurs. While Silvio Berlusconi could become Prime Minister again at 85 and many past setbacks, now Lollobrigida is appearing in the Senate. The Italian star has announced his desire to run in the early general elections on September 25. In “La Corrierre della Serra”, the eternal Queen of Sheba (cinephiles will perhaps prefer her in the role of Esmeralda or Adeline in “Fanfan la Tulipe”, Editor’s note), explained her choice to appear before the Italians, tired of hearing politicians speak in vain. “I am a candidate because I am fed up with politicians’ fights,” she said. “I will fight for the people to decide, from health to justice. Italy is going badly, I want to do something good and positive,” continued the actress who has Gandhi as a model.
A woman with a strong temperament
Gina Lollobrigida is running on behalf of a vast coalition of the left, a bit like the Nupes in Italy in the single-member constituency of Latina, a province south of Rome. This is not the first time she has entered politics. In 1999, she ran on the Democratic Party list led by Romano Prodi in the European elections but was not elected, which left her with no bitterness: “It was an experience, in life we can lose and we can win. A woman with a strong temperament, she assured the “Corriere della Serra” that she was not a figurehead but intended to sit in the event of an electoral victory.
