In the interview, the moderator describes the close friendship between Giovanni Zarrella and Pietro Lombardi as “a kind of second family”.
When singer and presenter Giovanni Zarrella (43, “Senza te (Without you)”) celebrates his debut as host of the new “The Giovanni Zarella Show” (September 11th, 8:15 pm, ZDF), singer Pietro Lombardi ( 29, “Senorita”) as a guest in the Saturday evening entertainment show. In an interview with the news agency spot on news, Zarrella explains why this is a matter of honor and what connects the two artists apart from their Italian roots.
You and Pietro Lombardi are close friends. What did he say about your new show?
Giovanni Zarrella: Pietro is so proud. But we also experienced so much together. In his difficult time after the breakup [von Ex-Ehefrau Sarah Engels (28) im Jahr 2016, Red.] my family and I tried to support him a bit because he was alone here in Cologne. And I think together with my wife [Jana Ina Zarrella, 44], my siblings and my parents, we were able to give him a good environment. We gave him a kind of second family besides his own. I think that was important to him. And he shows me this feeling of gratitude every day. We don’t need to tell ourselves that either, I can feel it. We are always there for one another. We think differently about many things, but when it comes to friendship, solidarity and mutual support, we speak the same language. Every success that the other celebrates is also a great joy for oneself.

Zarrella: Yes, that’s right. We put food in front of his door a couple of times. Thank goodness it turned out well with Pietro too. It didn’t go badly either. [Jana Ina hatte sich im September 2020 infiziert]
Pietro Lombardi is also a guest on your first show. Could that mark his comeback? He has withdrawn since the beginning of July …
Zarrella: I don’t know what is planned beforehand, maybe he will do something else beforehand. But I do believe that it is the new serve for him in terms of TV. I am of course happy that it is with me, because it is an environment in which nothing can happen to him, where there are only people who love him, who support him and who only want good for him. We always support each other, so there was no question of whether he would be on the show. I think Pietro would have shoveled everything in order to be there for me on this important day. We just know and feel when something is important to the other. He wanted to be there and I really wanted to have him there because this first show is also a getting to know ZDF viewers. Of course, I don’t assume that everyone knows me. Therefore, I would like to introduce myself sensibly and that also includes showing your friends.
Will your family be there too?
Zarrella: Jana Ina will certainly be there – whether also in front of the camera, that is not yet certain. The same goes for my parents.
And Helene Fischer, will she be there? After all, she also belongs to the ZDF family and has recently released a new single …
Zarrella: I can’t comment on that yet. There are really fantastic names among them. But of course, Helene is of course a desired participant – presumably for every program in all of Europe.
