The circumstances of the tragedy have yet to be established. An investigation was opened after the discovery on Sunday of the body of an 84-year-old woman killed by a firearm and her husband, also in his eighties, seriously injured by bullets, at their home in the town of Pineuilh (in Gironde).
According to a source close to the investigation, no lead has been ruled out by the investigators. It is therefore possible that it was a spousal homicide followed by a suicide attempt in the couple’s house – a gun was found on the spot.
A family member gave the alert
The couple who lived in this town of Libournais, about twenty kilometers from Bergerac (Dordogne) was discovered Sunday morning by a family member, said Olivier Kern, public prosecutor of Libourne, reports South West.
Seriously injured in the abdomen, the 86-year-old man was still hospitalized in Bordeaux on Monday.
The investigations were entrusted to the gendarmes of the research brigade of Libourne, co-seized with the research section of Bordeaux. The Libourne public prosecutor’s office should soon divest itself of the case in favor of the criminal division of the Bordeaux public prosecutor’s office.
