Actress, social media star, café owner: Gizem Emre has her hands full. She has never doubted her career path.

Gizem Emre (25) celebrated her breakthrough with her role as Zeynep in the hit movie "Fack ju Göhte" (2013). Since then she has been climbing the career ladder. From 2014 to 2020 she played the police daughter Dana Schulze in "Alarm für Cobra 11 – Die Autobahnpolizei". But the Berlin-born woman also celebrates successes outside of acting.

Together with her family, she has fulfilled her dream of having her own café. With Caro Daur, Lou Beyer and Lena Lademann, the 25-year-old also forms the "Worth it Club" of L'Oréal Paris. Among other things, she wants to call on her around 230,000 followers to no longer conform to the socially consistent image of women. In an interview, she reveals which women inspire Emre herself and how she is experiencing the current corona pandemic.

What distinguishes a strong woman in your eyes?

Gizem Emre: In my opinion, a strong woman is one who says what she thinks and who pursues her goals regardless of any gender roles. But above all, strong women are those who stand up for others and support women instead of making them small. So I'm all the more happy to be part of the "Worth it Club" of L'Oréal Paris and to give women a voice who might have a quieter one.

What would you say are your greatest strengths?

Emre: One of my strengths is definitely my stamina.

Do you have female role models?

Emre: I am generally inspired by women who are successful because they define and pursue their personal goals.

Your breakthrough came with the "Fack ju Göthe" films: Does it annoy you when you keep being asked about it?

Emre: I am very proud of what we have achieved with "Fack ju Göthe" and I am happy that the films are so popular and that I am still often asked about them today.

You are followed by 230,000 fans on Instagram, what distinguishes you from the numerous social media stars?

Emre: First and foremost, I am an actress and I am very happy with this number of fans! I think you should just try to be approachable to your followers and use social media to show yourself as human and share moments that you couldn't show without Instagram and Co.

How do you deal with negative feedback? Do you take nasty comments to heart?

Emre: Nasty comments like insults often have neither hand nor foot and are therefore not constructive. I just ignore them.

They also have their own café. How did that happen?

Emre: Opening a café has been a dream of mine for a long time. In addition to acting, I realized this with my family. It's a nice balance to the creative chaos on set.

How big are the worries about your café in view of the corona lockdown?

Emre: Of course we are not spared from the current situation and of course it leaves its mark, but nonetheless we are full of hope and look forward to the day that we will be able to reopen.

Have you ever doubted your career path?

Emre: Working in a creative profession brings ups and downs, but I've never doubted that this business is right for me.

What do you do in your free time, how do you pass the days in lockdown?

Emre: I always find something to do around the house. I also pass the time with video calls with friends and family or I cook a little more elaborately. I even ordered a hula hoop. Next up is bound to be a 1,000-piece puzzle.

The new year has just started, what are your plans for 2021?

Emre: Like everyone else, I naturally hope that something normal will soon return. In any case, there are some big projects planned that I can't say much about yet. Just that it's going to be very exciting!
