Glacier 3000: fire in mountain restaurant

A fire broke out in the mountain station of the Glacier 3000 facility in the Les Diablerets ski area on Monday morning. The fire destroyed the upper part of the Botta restaurant. The extinguishing work continues, there are no injuries.

below/above. A fire broke out in the Botta restaurant at the top of the Glacier 3000 facility on Monday night. This was announced by the Vaud cantonal police. The fire was reported around 4:30 a.m. and had not been extinguished by the time the report was made at 10:45 a.m. As the canton police write, emergency services can only get to the fire from the air, which makes extinguishing work more difficult.

The upper part of the building with the restaurant Botta designed by Swiss star architect Mario Botta and the self-service restaurant was destroyed by the flames. There were no employees on the site, and there were no injuries either. The extinguishing work should continue for the rest of the day, the cable car will remain closed until then.

The extent to which the technical systems of the cable car are also affected is currently being clarified. So far there is no information on the cause of the fire. According to the announcement, the public prosecutor’s office is investigating.
