Glass nails: this is how the beauty trend from South Korea succeeds

More and more beauty trends are spilling over to us from Asia. South Korea in particular is happy to provide us with the latest beauty hypes – and they are always super innovative. So also this trendy trend called glass nails. Sounds crazy? Maybe, but the end result is impressive.

With the glass trend, your nails will be a real eye-catcher

The glass nail creations are about making the nails look as if they were fitted with shimmering, broken glass. How that should look in the end is up to your creativity. From shards in a metallic look to sequins to glittering stones in geometric shapes – there are no limits. The advantage: Depending on what suits you, you can either accelerate or keep it decent. Means: No matter whether simple and elegant or opulent and crazy, with this trend everything is possible.

Make glass nails yourself? Here's how it works

Imitating the trend may seem difficult at first, but it's actually not. Promised! Because even if the whole thing is called "glass nails", it is not real glass. That would also be far too dangerous. Instead, only the illusion is played. That is, cellophane paper is simply used to create the effect. Clever! And this is how it works: First, the nails are painted in the color of your choice. Pastel shades, for example, provide a feminine touch, black for an edgy look. But especially a transparent lacquer underlines the glass effect. After the base has dried, a coat of clear varnish is applied. The previously cut pieces of cellophane paper are then placed on top – ideally with tweezers. To fix the artwork, you apply another layer of clear varnish at the end. Et voilà!

By the way: The South Korean designer Eunkyung Park, who invented the glass nail trend, also launched the Lipstick Nails. We'll tell you what's behind it here.
