Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery, starring Daniel Craig, gets the biggest theatrical release for a Netflix film to date.

The Netflix streaming service has already brought a large number of its own films to cinemas in recent years. This often happened, however, especially with regard to film awards such as the Oscars. Because if a strip isn’t showing in the cinema, it doesn’t meet the formal criteria for taking part in the awards. In the case of the eagerly awaited “Knives Out” sequel “Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery” starring ex-007 Daniel Craig (54), Netflix is now taking a different approach. The sequel gets the biggest theatrical run of a Netflix film in the US to date.

Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery will be released in 600 theaters

The “Knives Out” sequel will be shown in around 600 US cinemas, according to the streaming service. A release from November 23rd to 29th around Thanksgiving is planned. After that, the film will disappear from the screens to appear regularly on Netflix on December 23, as previously announced. Director and screenwriter Rian Johnson (48) expressed his enthusiasm in a statement and looks forward to “feeling the energy of the audience” in a cinema hall.

With AMC, Regal and Cinemark Theaters, the three largest cinema chains in North America are showing “Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery”, which is a first for a Netflix film, as Johnson explains. The star-studded film is currently on the “Rotten Tomatoes” portal with an excellent average rating of 91 percent positive reviews. “Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery” also became a hit with audiences at the Toronto Film Festival.

A theatrical release is also planned for Germany

“Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery” will also be released in cinemas in Germany and numerous other European countries such as Italy, Spain and Great Britain. However, a German start date has not yet been set. In “Knives Out 2” Daniel Craig’s detective Benoit Blanc takes on a whole new murder case in Greece. Craig is the only returnee from the first part. The cast of the new film also includes Edward Norton (53), Kate Hudson (43) and Dave Bautista (53).
