After the Corona break, the famous Glastonbury will take place again. Volodymyr Zelenskyj opened the festival with a video message.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy (44) opened the first musical day of Glastonbury with a pre-recorded video message. Among other things, he asked for the support of festival visitors. The clip was shown on big screens on “The Other Stage”.before the Libertines performed.

According to him, the people of Ukraine would also like to simply live their lives as they used to and “enjoy the freedom and this wonderful summer”. But they couldn’t: “Russia stole our peace.” Ukraine wants to “stop the war before it ruins the lives of other people in other countries in Europe, Africa, Asia and Latin America – they are all now under threat.”

Selenskyj asks for support because the Glastonbury Festival is “the greatest concentration of freedom” these days. Among other things, visitors should therefore share information about the war, donate and help people who have fled from Ukraine. “Time is priceless and every day is measured in human lives,” said the 44-year-old. “Proves that freedom always triumphs!”

The Chemical Brothers will not perform

Noisy a report by the British BBC Libertines singer Pete Doherty (43) later called on those present to call out the name of the Ukrainian president. In the coming hours and days, Paul McCartney (80), Kendrick Lamar (35), Billie Eilish (20), Diana Ross (78) and many other acts are expected to perform at the festival.

Meanwhile, there will be no appearance by the Chemical Brothers on Friday evening. Tom Rowlands (51), part of the duo, according to a message on Twitter infected with the coronavirus. The two had hoped that Rowlands would recover in time, but this is not the case. However, one still hopes that a performance planned for Sunday in York can take place.
