Glenn Close was unable to take home an Academy Award on Sunday night. The actress was the star of the 93rd Oscars anyway.

Even in the eighth attempt, Glenn Close (74, “The Nobel Laureate’s Wife”) was unable to take home an Academy Award on the night from Sunday to Monday (April 26th). The American is the actress with the most Oscar nominations that the golden boy has never been able to win. Nevertheless, she became the star of the 93rd edition of the film awards ceremony – due to a memorable dance performance.

The funny moment occurred as part of an entertainment segment in which comedian Lil Rel Howery (41) tested the musical knowledge of the stars present. Arriving at Glenn Close’s, DJ Questlove (50) suddenly played the 1988 song “Da Butt” by the band Experience Unlimited. “Stop, stop. That’s not fair to Glenn Close,” Howery said.

Glenn Close danced to “Da Butt”

The 74-year-old recognized the song immediately and interjected: “That’s ‘Da Butt’. I know him … Spike Lee had it written for his brilliant film ‘School Daze’. My friends at the Oscars overlooked it and he wasn’t nominated, so he couldn’t win either, which I think is absolute crap. ”

Comedian Howery – already visibly surprised – then asked the renowned actress if she knew “the dance” to the song, whereupon Close got up and let the other guests laugh, hips. Following the ceremony, which was smaller due to the corona pandemic in 2021, the Oscar Academy posted, a gif of the funny dance interlude on Twitter.

She lost the Oscar to “Minari” star Yoon Yeo-jeong

Glenn Close was nominated for Best Supporting Actress at the 93rd Academy Awards for her role in Hillbilly Elegy. Instead of her, however, Yoon Yeo-jeong (73) won for “Minari – Where We Put Roots”. In the past few years, Close was nominated for the films “A fatal affair” (1987), “Dangerous Liaisons” (1988) and “The Nobel Laureate’s Wife” (2017).
