(Boursier.com) — Global Bioenergies announced funding of 6.2 million euros allocated by ADEME for the Prénidem project led by the group. This amount includes 4.4 ME allocated to Global Bioenergies, in the form of a 60% grant (non-refundable) and 40% repayable advances subject to the achievement of technical and commercial milestones with a payment in several installments on the duration of the project including an initial tranche of 15%.

The project runs until September 2025. The first stage corresponds to the conversion of waste sugars into DMA (also called “prenic acid”). The production of this metabolic intermediate is carried out in an industrial-scale fermenter operated by Ajinomoto Foods Europe. The second step consists in converting this DMA into isobutene within the production unit belonging to Global Bioenergies and operated by the company ARD on its Pomacle-Bazancourt site.

The first objective of the project is to promote the commercial applications of bio-based isobutene derivatives, in the make-up market but also high octane number renewable fuel additives currently sought after by Formula 1 players. The second objective is to optimize the technology in order to reduce the production costs of bio-based isobutene and its derivatives.
