Paris, June 21, 2022 – Global Bioenergies has received a first order from Shell for bio-isobutene derivatives for performance testing.
Global Bioenergies focuses its strategy on the bio-production of isobutene, one of the main building blocks of the chemical industry whose derivatives can be used in a wide range of sectors, from cosmetics to fuels, including fine chemicals and amenities. The world isobutene market reaches 15 million tons per year.
Shell plans to explore the possibility of replacing certain isobutene derivatives, currently derived from petroleum, with their equivalents derived from renewable resources, while maintaining the same level of performance. Global Bioenergies provides turnkey solutions to manufacturers specializing in many fields. Renewable isobutene could eventually allow up to 70% reduction in CO2 emissions compared to its fossil equivalent.
