(Boursier.com) — Global Bioenergies has received a first order from Shell for bio-isobutene derivatives intended for performance testing. Global Bioenergies focuses its strategy on the bio-production of isobutene, one of the main building blocks of the chemical industry whose derivatives can be used in a wide range of sectors, from cosmetics to fuels, including fine chemicals and amenities. The world isobutene market reaches 15 million tons per year. Shell plans to explore the possibility of replacing certain isobutene derivatives, currently derived from petroleum, with their equivalents derived from renewable resources, while maintaining the same level of performance. Global Bioenergies provides turnkey solutions to manufacturers specializing in many fields. Renewable isobutene could eventually allow up to 70% reduction in CO2 emissions compared to its fossil equivalent.

Global Bioenergies today announces that Shell has ordered trial volumes of two bio-isobutene derivatives from Global Bioenergies. Both compounds will be manufactured and delivered within the next few weeks. Marc Delcourt, co-founder and managing director of Global Bioenergies, comments: “The first mission of our Pomacle unit is to market renewable isododecane for the cosmetics industry, but this unit can also supply other markets: we have recently received requests for bioisobutene and its derivatives from several prospects in different fields.”
