Evry, February 16, 2023: Global Bioenergies has the prospect of producing Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) thanks to its biobased isobutene technology, and has been working for several years on its certification procedure by the ‘ASTM International. The voting process, a key step for this certification, is now scheduled.
How does it work?
The airline industry requires that any fuel used be ASTM certified. SAFs are certified worldwide to ASTM D7566 which outlines fuel specification requirements and maximum blend percentage with conventional fuels. This standard allows them to be considered “drop-in” fuels, meaning they can be safely used in airliners and existing infrastructure internationally. The inclusion of new SAF production methods in the standard is based on an in-depth evaluation of fuel performance, following which a voting procedure is initiated.
