One of Israel’s most influential politicians thanks Germany and its foreign minister over the phone. It is also said to have been about forming a front against Iran. Baerbock himself recently urged all those involved to act prudently.

After the Iranian attack on Israel, Benny Gantz, a member of the Israeli war cabinet, said he spoke to Federal Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock about forming a “global front” against Iran. His conversation with the Green politician was particularly about the need to create a “united global front” against the aggression of Iran or its regional and global proxies, he wrote on Platform Germany’s stance as well as the minister personally in condemning the Iranian attack.

Gantz had previously said he hoped to form a regional coalition against the Iranian threat. The Israeli military says it successfully repelled the Iranian attack. It had support from the USA, Great Britain, France and Jordan. Gantz, a minister without portfolio in Netanyahu’s government, is part of the core of the war cabinet.

On behalf of the federal government, Baerbock condemned the Iranian drone and rocket attack on Israel on Sunday night and called on the leadership in Tehran to stop the attack. “We strongly condemn the ongoing attack, which can plunge an entire region into chaos,” wrote the Foreign Minister on X. Iran and its allied forces must “immediately stop” the attack. “Our solidarity goes out to Israel at this time,” added Baerbock.

She later warned that the situation would worsen. “I call on all actors in the region to act prudently,” said Baerbock. “The spiral of escalation must be broken. We must work together to end the violence.” She warned: “The millions of women, men and children in Israel, in Iran and throughout the region who could not sleep last night because of fear, they all do not want this escalation.”
