The world of IT should have a good year in 2024. Sales in this area should indeed experience a significant improvement if this study is to be believed.

2023 had not been the best of years in the high-tech sector, with sales on average a little at half mast. On the contrary, the year 2024 should be happy for all companies in the sector. We had already seen that the smartphone market was picking up in the first quarter of 2024. And this growth should be accompanied by an increase in global spending on IT.

A strong increase in sales driven by two sectors

The analysis firm Gartner brings with it good news. In its latest study, it announces that global sales in the IT sector will increase by 8% in 2024, to total $5,060 billion. The beginning of a breakthrough, since by 2030, these sales should reach 8,000 billion dollars.

According to Gartner, the good health of the sector will be driven by two particular product categories, namely devices (such as computers) and data center systems. This last category, which will surprise no one given the times, benefits from the explosion of artificial intelligence.

AI, the sales booster

This is very clearly indicated by Gartner analyst John-David Lovelock, who explains that after having developed plans to equip themselves with generative AI tools, companies now want to see their objectives realized.

When it comes to generative AI, we see a cycle of story, plan, and execute. In 2023, companies were telling the generative AI story and in 2024 we see most of them planning for a possible 2025 execution. […]. They bring generative AI capabilities to existing products and services, as well as use cases identified by their enterprise customers » he indicated.

The field of devices will, for its part, be entitled to growth thanks to changes in consumer behavior, who keep their smartphones for less time. Sales of tech devices are expected to increase from $664 billion in 2023 to $688 billion in 2024 (an increase of 3%).
