Global trade in green goods resists

Growth in international trade has slowed since mid-2022 but some products are doing well. Exports of green goods, such as wind turbines or plastic-free packaging, rose last year, says a report from the Cnuced, the agency of the United Nations (UN) in charge of trade and development.

World trade was marked in 2022 by two opposing movements. It reached the record value of 32,000 billion dollars while declining in the second half. Deteriorating economic conditions and heightened uncertainty weighed on growth in trade in goods, which turned negative in the second half of the year. In the first quarter of 2023, international trade will stagnate, predicts UNCTAD.
