Glutonny bows out in Genesis 8 final after incredible run

This weekend was Genesis 8, Major Tournament of the Year on Super Smash Bros Ultimate, in San Jose, California. For the occasion, there were the gratin of Ultimate players including the French player, William “Glutonny” Belaid. Very fit recently and confident following his third place at the RETA 2022, the Solary player simply performed exceptionally well.

Faced with its usual North American competitors, who have dominated the discipline for years, Glutonny managed to reach the final of the competition by chaining the victories. If he fell into the Loser Bracket quickly following his loss to Leonardo “MkLeo” Lopez Perezthe best player in the world, he dominated all his competitors, including big names like Kolawole “Kola” Aideyan. Qualified for the Final Bracket, he faces Paris “Light” Ramirezslightly behind him in the world rankings, and won easily 3/0 to reach the Loser Bracket final.

He finds Edgar “Sparg0” Valdezsecond best player in the world, and even if the Mexican is a favorite, Glutonny does not seem to tremble. The Frenchman dominates this meeting 3/1 and rushes to find MkLeo in the grand final to try to get revenge. If he will unfortunately not make the weight against an imperial MkLeo with Byleth, Glutonny can consider himself lucky to have reached such a plateau. He will also express his pride in having achieved such a performance even if he now hopes to win the battle next time.

In any case, he will have thrilled the French community who encouraged him throughout the competition and certainly helped him achieve this fantastic course. Another Frenchman seems to have taken advantage of the songs of the French fans present on the spot since Thomas “Oryon” Scalese finished in an honorable 13th place. We now hope to see the French shine again in the next competitions and it’s only a matter of time before we see one win a major eventas the enthusiasm in France for Smash is exceptional.
