GM: alongside Lithion for battery recycling

(CercleFinance.com) – General Motors announces that its investment arm, GM Ventures, has invested in the series A funding round of Lithion Recycling, as part of a new partnership between the two structures around technology Lithion’s breakthrough in battery recycling.

This collaboration will focus in particular on the validation of recovered battery materials for their use in the production of new batteries. It will also involve setting up joint investments in R&D for recycling processes.

‘ With a recovery rate of over 95% and using green energy from Quebec, Lithion’s technology and operations will reduce greenhouse gas emissions by over 75% and water consumption by more 90% compared to mining battery materials,” GM said, based on a third-party life cycle study.

“This partnership underscores our commitment to enabling the transition to a low-carbon economy as part of the fight against climate change,” said Benoit Couture, President and CEO of Lithion.
