With more than 1.8 billion users around the world, the Gmail messaging application regularly benefits from updates. However, an obvious option has been missing since its launch on Android. This is the possibility of making a group selection of emails to delete, archive or move to another category. It’s now done, from the trash to the inbox to spam.
This new feature currently being deployed repairs an oversight dating back around fifteen years. Despite the numerous updates made by Google, the Select All option was in fact missing, unlike the web version, forcing users of the Android app to manually choose each email for actions such as deletion or archiving . This change was reported on Reddit by several users who spotted the Select All function in versions 2023.11.12.586837719 and 2023.11.26.586591930 of the Gmail application for Android.
To activate it, simply long press on an email or the sender’s avatar, which brings up the Select All option at the top of the message list, making multiple selection easier. However, be aware that this option does not select all emails, only the 50 messages displayed on the page, requiring additional scrolling for a wider selection.
Despite this limitation, the Select All option finally simplifies the management of missives on Gmail, while waiting for the integration of Gemini into the application which, this time, should not take 15 years to arrive.
