Gmail makes it even easier to unsubscribe from unwanted emails


Google is making a significant update to Gmail, making the unsubscribe button for advertising emails more visible and easier to access, both on the web version and on the Android app.

In a recent update, Google introduced a notable change to Gmail: a more prominent unsubscribe button. Originally announced in October, this feature requires bulk email senders to include a one-click unsubscribe button in the body of their messages. On the web version of Gmail, the blue button is now located next to the sender’s name. Clicking on this button results in a confirmation request, after which Google sends an unsubscribe email on your behalf.

This functionality, in addition to being accessible directly in the email, also appears in the inbox when a user hovers over a message. This provides a quick and efficient way manage unwanted subscriptions. Gmail for Android, which previously had its unsubscribe button in the top drop-down menu, will also benefit from this improvement. Users are encouraged to update Gmail to see this feature appear.

This update comes as Gmail users on Android already benefit from facilities for unsubscribing from advertising emails. There version 2023.11.12 of the Gmail Android application includes an unsubscribe button located to the right of the sender’s address, functioning in the same way as that of the web version. By clicking on it, users can quickly unsubscribe from unwanted emails. Google increased the size of this button to make it more visible, although for now this feature is only available to certain users.

Currently rolling out, this Gmail improvement is an example of how Google continues to make life easier for its users.
