Go on vacation with peace of mind, Gmail answers your emails

Holidays, or the opportunity to rest and recharge your batteries. Except when you’re on vacation, your inbox is still there. And you continue to receive e-mails every day. If you are unavailable to respond, these emails will pile up. This is not necessarily serious, you can take care of it later, for example when you return from vacation.

But what about those who messaged you? They may not know you’re on vacation, and the time between sending the message and your response can be worrying. Especially if the content of the message is urgent!

But don’t worry, there is a way to help you. Automatic replies have been around for a very long time. This is a solution that you set up for an email to notify your sender that you are unavailable. Almost all email services offer this option, and Gmail is no exception.

How to configure your automatic replies in Gmail?

The only thing you need is a Gmail account. It can be a free or paid version of Google Workspace.

1. Log into your Gmail account

The first thing you need to do is open a web browser and then sign in to your Google account. Once logged in, go to gmail.com.

2. Open Gmail settings

In the window Settingsclick on See all parameters.

4. Configure your automatic replies settings

The first thing to do is to check the box Auto answer enabled. Next, indicate the start and end of your vacation. Once you’ve taken care of that, add an item like “Out of office 11/15-11/24”.

Next, compose the email that will be sent to the senders. In this email, you can add information that will guide the recipient to a collaborator if needed. The important thing is to give all the information that your interlocutors may need.

You can also format the body of the email and even include links to resources the recipient might find useful.

5. Save changes

When you’re done, click Save Changes and voila. On the first day of your vacation, automatic replies will be sent. As soon as you come back, the automatic replies will stop.
