Andrew Scott owes a lot to “Fleabag”, and he realizes it. Which does not prevent him from being particularly uncomfortable that fans of the series are still inconsolable, 5 years after the end of the show designed by Phoebe Waller-Bridge.
In the spotlight for many years since his role as James Moriarty in the hit BBC series, Sherlock, Andrew Scott has since taken on roles: we have seen him in big budget films such as Specter or 1917, both signed Sam Mendes by the way, and he is currently in the running for numerous awards for his performance in the drama Without Ever Knowing Us in which he notably stars alongside another rising star, Paul Mescal, in addition to Jamie Bell and Claire Foy.
However, his most popular and still much talked about role today remains that of “Hot Priest” from season 2 of Fleabag, the acclaimed series by and starring Phoebe Waller-Bridge. His chemistry with the actress fascinated fans, and their doomed bittersweet romance – he is a priest after all – proved to be the highlight of the show. Even 5 years after its end, some fans have not recovered from their grief and Andrew Scott has a message for them in particular.
The “Hot Priest” that changed everything
It must be admitted, Andrew Scott played a character with incredible charm in the second season 2 of the series. Season 1 had already been a hit with audiences with its unique meta-humor that broke the fourth wall, but the addition of the famous “Sexy Priest” in Season 2 brought a new dimension to the show – he who seemed to be the alone to be aware of the moments when the character of Phoebe Waller-Bridge speaks to the camera and even calls him out for it.
As audiences remember, the two characters therefore do not end up together due to the priest’s devotion to God, which disappointed some fans who were hoping for a happy ending for the potential couple. Five years later, they are still in shock from the characters’ goodbyes at the end of the series.

Andrew Scott recently reflected on the success of the series and the popularity of his character in an interview with Entertainment Weekly. Asked if fans were still in shock, the actor advised them to stop being sad and move on. He further asked the audience to pull themselves together and come out of their cocoon of depression.
“Get out and get some fresh air! Stop crying in your room with the curtains closed. Do something better with your life. It’s a great series, we all love it, but come on now! Pull yourself together. Open the curtains and go out.”
Fleabag had a huge impact on the public and Andrew Scott is aware of the quality of the series. Although incredibly sad, this ending was perhaps the best possible ending, both for the two characters and for the series. Let’s move on now, as advised by the actor who will soon be starring in Seth Gordon’s spy film Back in Action, opposite Cameron Diaz, Kyle Chandler, Jamie Foxx and Glenn Close.
