Terodde is always right – in league two
The current top scorer in the 2nd Bundesliga is now also the best of all time. With his 153rd goal, Simon Terodde draws level with Dieter Schatzschneider. Ironically, in his home town of Hanover, the Schalke professional can overtake him on the upcoming matchday.
When the ball came, Simon Terodde was spot on. Once again. The 33-year-old hit the empty goal – and wrote German football history. With his 153rd goal in the 3-0 (1-0) of Bundesliga relegated Schalke 04 against FC Ingolstadt, the striker set Dieter Schatzschneider’s second division record from 1987.
“Today we can just let the five be and toast,” said Terodde after his historic goal in the 77th minute on Sky: “It’s great fun.” As a souvenir he took the ball with him, he had “thrown the jersey” to my parents. Almost ten years ago he had scored his first second division goal for Union Berlin – now Schalke celebrated him in front of the north curve and threw their striker into the air.
The striker could crown himself as the sole “first in the second” in front of the previous record holder: After the international break, Schalke will be guests at Schatzschneider’s home club Hannover 96 on October 15th. “Of course I want to continue like this,” announced Terodde.
“I’m a big fan of his,” said Schatzschneider, who crossed his fingers for his heir in front of the television, the SID. The old champion expects Terodde to have well over 160 goals at the end of his career: “If he were a hollow nut, I wouldn’t make an effort.
