The new Gocycle CXi is well equipped and has numerous technical highlights. The foldable e-cargo bike is also particularly light.
No oil-smeared pants or fingers thanks to the encapsulated belt drive, plus particularly good ergonomics and low weight: Gocycle is making the leap from folding bike to folding cargo bike with the CXi and the better-equipped CX+.
The look of the new product looks familiar to us, as it is very reminiscent of the Gocycle GX and Gocycle G4 e-bikes we tested. The CXi looks like the stretch version of these two folding e-bikes.
And the cargo bike now presented also adopts numerous technical details from the G4 and GX, such as the 5-speed hub gear from Shimano Nexus or the low-maintenance, encapsulated belt drive.
The rear area, called the deck, is designed for child seats and other accessories. Despite its lightweight construction – the e-cargo bike should only weigh 23 kilograms – the technical data states a permissible total weight of 220 kilograms. This makes the Gocycle CXi lighter than the Fiido Titan (test report) and can still transport more.
“Entering the cargo e-bike market is a bold step for Gocycle as we expand our product family into uncharted territory. We have focused on our core values of lightness and mobility. In doing so, we address an important gap in the market, particularly for customers who are put off by bulky and heavy cargo bikes,” says Gocycle founder and designer Richard Thorpe.
The handlebars and front part of the e-bike can be folded up to save space, making it easier to store the e-bike in boats, motorhomes or the trunk. In this condition, the e-cargo bike also takes up little space in the bike cellar.
Keyword handlebars: The top model CX+ comes with the so-called FloFit handlebars. It is intended to offer drivers a high degree of flexibility and ergonomics, enabling both upright and crouched sitting positions. The reach, height and grip angle can be adjusted to your liking.
Price and availability
According to the manufacturer, the price of the Gocycle CXi will “probably” start at 6,999 euros. The CX+ version with FloFit handlebars will be available starting at 7,999 euros.
Anyone interested can now pre-order both e-bikes from the manufacturer for a refundable deposit of 499 euros. Delivery of the first models is expected in September 2024. We will introduce you to other e-bike innovations of the year here.
