Unveiled during Gamescom time last summer, god of rock is a title that will mix fight and rhythm game. A strange alliance, which could still work well if the tempo is successful and the soundtrack catchy. We now know its release date, set for April 18. An announcement that fell a little before the end of the year celebrations, but we are taking advantage of this start of the 2023 school year to come back to certain news that has passed under our radar.
Punch in rhythm
In 2019, publisher Modus Games bought The Balanc Inc, a Brazilian studio known for developing Override: Mech City Brawl. Renamed Modus Studios Brazil, it then offered us a sequel to the mecha game, before working on a new license: God of Rock. The objective, to create a rivalry between two fighters who, like any fighting game, must hit each other to lower the opponent’s life bar, but this is done at the timing of the notes that will scroll on the screen like a real one. rhythm game.
It is therefore necessary to follow the rhythm of the music, resulting from a soundtrack of more than 40 pieces and to hammer the right key at the right timing. Of course, to distinguish itself from a classic musical game, it is possible to choose from a dozen fighters that we are promised to be radically different from each other. Each will have an EX gauge with special skills to get the upper hand on the opponent.
These mechanics are presented in this new video. Three minutes to fly over the gameplay and show us the characteristics of this original mixture that we can discover through several game modes, ranging from the traditional training mode to the solo mode via a track editor to customize the notes present on a piece. The title will be playable both locally and online with a ranked mode.
The good news is that the developer is taking advantage of a partnership between its parent company and Maximum Games to release a physical edition. In France, the distributor Just for Games will distribute the boxed version in our regions on all home consoles. The digital and physical releases will be done simultaneously, with a small particularity for the box: it will be a deluxe edition combining the base game and the Season Pass, which will include 6 characters and around twenty additional songs.
god of rock will be available on April 18, 2023 on PC via Steam, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series and Nintendo Switch. Physical pre-orders are already launched, the deluxe being listed at 39.99€:
