It’s official, Sony will soon adapt three of these licenses in series! These productions join The Last of Us, Uncharted, as well as Ghost of Tsushima in the long list of Sony video game productions that have been adapted into films or series. Greatly successful licenses whose story will surely charm spectators around the world!
God of War, Horizon and Gran Turismo in the spotlight
It was during a report for investors that Sony unveiled, on May 26, the adaptation of these three licenses into television series. Sony CEO Jim Ryan revealed during the Q&A that the company wanted to expand its TV adaptation portfolio much further than the current, already well-stocked one.
Each production will be under a different direction: God of War that of Netflix, Horizon that of Amazon and Gran Turismo a platform whose name has not yet been revealed. One thing is certain, Sony wants diversify and intends to be present on all online streaming and broadcasting platforms.
The popular video game
In recent years, video games seem to be of interest to series and film producers. Recently, the Halo series landed on Amazon Prime, but also Uncharted on the big screens around the world. In addition, Amazon Studios is reportedly working on a Mass Effect series, and another with a Fallout theme.
But what makes the appeal of these video game productions? Quite simply, their community. Over the years, the video game has become popular, so that the number of players is only growing. These flagship industry licenses therefore represent real communities, sometimes numbering thousands of fans, who will undoubtedly watch the films or the series.
Furthermore, fantasy worlds illustrated in video games can be similar to those that can be seen in movies. Games, like cinematographic productions, transport us and sometimes stage the impossible.
The video game industry and the unique worlds of each of its productions are therefore popular, to the delight of production studios.
We do not yet have a specific release date for future productions from Sony. As for Gran Turismo, we don’t know the plot around which the series will revolve, it is likely that it will bea program on the field of motor racing.
As for God of War and Horizon, we suspect that the stories of the series will undoubtedly be those illustrated in the video games. It is also possible that these are events taking place before those of the games, or after. The mystery remains, for the moment, whole. Either way, we can’t wait to see what Aloy and Kratos have in store for us!
