God of War Ragnarok: These 5 moments that gave us a slap!

With over five million units sold in nearly a week, God of War Ragnarök is the PlayStation exclusive that has had the best launch for a PS4 and PS5 exclusive. Sold mainly on Sony’s new console in the UK and from quite a distance, it seems that players prefer to enjoy the second journey of Kratos and Atreus in the best possible conditions, and that’s understandable. In this article, we will see some of the sequences that are, in our opinion, the most significant of this second episode.

Here, after nearly thirty hours of play the credits scroll: you have managed to see the end of this new God of War and its conclusion which will not fail to leave some on the floor. We explain to you what is happening there and we tell you how we see things for the future.

The first hour of play

Perhaps you are not familiar with the principle of first hour experience : according to very serious studies on the habits of players, the first hour of a game is a critical moment, which will determine whether he will remain attached to his controller for the rest of the adventure or quickly move on thing. And the least we can say is that God of War Ragnarok passes this stage brilliantly, since the first chapters of the game are hyper-paced and loaded with striking sequences. From the introduction with Freya who jumps on you, to the dantesque fight against Thor, passing by the ratonnade inflicted on the big bear who will finally turn out to be Atreus… a lot is happening in a very short time, for one of the most solid start to the game seen on a AAA of this caliber.

Garm’s Pursuit

Helheim is not really a very interesting kingdom, either in God of War 2018 or in this new episode. However, the Reunion chapter in which Kratos and Atreus must pursue the wolf that tears the link between dimensions is one of the highlights of this episode. In this sequence, the series revives its desire for gigantism by proposing a confrontation against an enemy who is 10 times the size of the characters and who sends entire structures flying with a tail stroke. To top it off, the big fat doggo is animated with a certain mastery, which makes this encounter even more memorable.

God of War Ragnarok

The fight in the tavern with Atreus

A very scripted scene interspersed with a few fights, but in which the famous sequence shot chosen for the staging shines with a thousand lights. Ideas flow and many touches of humor come to make the sequence particularly fun. Atreus literally gets tossed around every nook and cranny of the building while Thrud and Thor slug it out in other parts of the tavern. The icing on the Mon Chéri is how the God of Lightning retrieves his hammer at the end, in the utter calm, causing one last huge mess inside. A very funny phase and among the most rhythmic of the adventure.

God of War Ragnarok

When Kratos drops the armor

This is the greatest success of the Santa Monica Studios title: in this episode, Kratos appears more human than ever, to such a degree that one would almost pity the man. Worn out by his battles, harassed by his doubts and the memories of his late wife, the one who single-handedly crushed the entire Greek pantheon sees the world little by little in a different light thanks to his son. Even if he worries a lot for himself, he learns to trust others again, until he becomes the general adored by all of Norse mythology. In Ragnarok, Kratos confirms his place in the pantheon of the best video game characters, but this time it won’t be thanks to his massacres and his divine anger.

Some side quests

The efforts put into the additional content of the game command respect: if they are never of great originality in their progress, Ragnarok’s side quests most often take advantage of exclusive environments, or even important moments that strengthen the relationship between multiple characters. To cite a few examples, we think of the release of the two Hafgufa in the quests of the Secret of the Sands and the Song of the Sands in the kingdom of Alfheim, or the island of Lyngbakr in The Weight of Chains in Svartalfheim.
