Godard case: this mysterious blonde woman whom the family would have found at the hotel after their disappearance

It’s one of the biggest mysteries of the late 2000s. On September 2, 1999, Dr. Yves Godard and his children, Camille, 6, and Marius, 4disappeared at sea after boarding the sailboat Nick at the marina of Saint-Malo (Ille-et-Vilaine). A few days later, blood belonging to the doctor’s wife, Marie-France Godard, was discovered in the latter’s combi and in the family home. A manhunt was quickly organized in the English Channel, but neither the doctor, nor his wife, nor his children were ever found.

However, some witnesses claim to have seen Yves Godard and his children on dry land more than a week after their disappearance. In the second episode of the documentary Doctor Godard – The Man Who Wanted to Leave Everythingbroadcast this Sunday March 12 on TF1, protagonists close to the case say that between September 7 and 14, 1999, Godard and his children were seen in a hotel of Douglas, the capital of the Isle of Man. “It was quite unusual, they didn’t have breakfast, they didn’t go to restaurants, which is rare for a father with his children”remembers a waiter at the Mannin hotel.

“When the blonde woman arrives, the children are silent and they jump on her neck”

Strange fact, Yves Godard and his children would then have been seen in the company of a blonde woman. An employee of the Mannin hotel, who came “get your money back on a weekend“, would have seen in particular this mysterious stranger in the hall of the establishment. “He sees a blonde woman coming, says Jean-Paul Aubry, from the Rennes research section, in the TF1 documentary. And when the blond woman arrives, the children are silent and they jump on her neck. We do not invent it (…).”

But who was this mysterious stranger? Was it an accomplice of Yves Godard? Of his wife, then presumed dead because of the large quantity of her blood discovered in France?“Some said ‘Why wouldn’t it be Marie, who would have joined them by another means since she doesn’t like sailing, she doesn’t like boating?'”, remembers Thierry Lezeau, director of investigation. Unfortunately, the enigmatic blonde woman has never been identified. “It was impossible to make a composite portrait since we didn’t have the details of the face, the eyes… It was not possibleemphasizes Jean-Paul Aubry. However, the only thing we admitted was that the hair looked more like a wig. A blonde wig.”

Twenty-five years later, we still don’t know what really happened to the Godard family. In June 2000, the skull of little Camille was fished out by a shellfish collector in the bay of Saint-Brieuc, off Erquy. The femur and tibia of the father of the family, Yves Godard, were also fished out. The bodies of Marie-France Godard and her son, little Marius, have never been found.
