Godzilla Minus One: does this detail at the end of the credits announce a 2nd film?

Will Godzilla Minus One, released in theaters on January 17, have a sequel? Furthermore, what do we understand from the end of the film? We decipher it all!

Godzilla, the giant destructive lizard, is back in theaters in Minus One! From January 17 to 31, French spectators will be able to discover this cinema phenomenon from Japan which has already collected 100 million dollars at the worldwide box office!

The plot takes us to the Land of the Rising Sun, which is barely recovering from the Second World War. A new gigantic danger then emerges off the coast of Tokyo, devastating everything in its path. Koichi, a suicide bomber deserter traumatized by his first confrontation with Godzilla, sees this as an opportunity to atone for his conduct during the war.

Is a sequel in the pipeline?

After the success of the feature film, is a sequel planned? The director, Takashi Yamazaki, is in! “I’ve always wanted to make a Godzilla movie. It’s a dream of over 50 years that is finally coming to fruition for me. I would like to make one more but wonder if I could do it”he declared during a preview last November.

Given the wheelbarrow of greenbacks that the film collected, it is very likely that a second opus could see the light of day. “We’re collectively thinking about the future of the Godzilla character. We’ve had animated Godzilla films in the past, and we’re thinking about new ways to expand the franchise.”confided producer Minami Ichikawa at the microphone of GQ.

Please note, the rest of this article reveals the end of Godzilla Minus One. If you don’t want to be spoiled, move on.

What to understand from the end?

Considering how Minus One ends, the door is completely open for a sequel. Indeed, after delivering the final blow to the creature with the nuclear blast, Koichi finds redemption among his family. However, Godzilla may not actually be defeated.

After managing to detonate a bomb in the monster’s mouth by heading straight towards it with his small plane, Koichi survives by ejecting before the detonation. Everyone is then relieved to see the Titan pass from life to death; Japan can finally breathe… for how long?

Godzilla rises from the ashes?

Just before the credits, we see a shot of Godzilla’s body disintegrating in the sea. Part of his corpse then begins to swell, as if it were going to give birth to a new creature emerging from the bowels of his dislocated remains.

This detail is confirmed at the very end of the credits, when the deafening cry of the beast sounds as the music ends. Godzilla will indeed be back! However, if the feature film leaves the door open for a second film, nothing has yet been officially announced.

But since the work is a hit around the world, it’s only a matter of time before the good news is revealed. In the meantime, we can see the creature again in Godzilla X Kong: The New Kingdom, in theaters on April 3.
