Femke Bol breaks his own world record at the World Indoor Championships

World and European champion Femke Bol recently started the indoor season in a record-breaking manner. She flies away from her competition and sets the world record in order to top it again at the World Indoor Championships.

The Dutch track and field star Femke Bol has become world indoor champion in the 400 meters with a world record. Two weeks after setting her world record of 49.24 seconds, the 24-year-old improved her mark to 49.17 seconds. In the men’s category, the Norwegian Olympic hurdle champion Karsten Warholm had to admit defeat to the Belgian Alexander Doom. The American hurdler Grant Holloway once again demonstrated his exceptional position.

The three-time outdoor world champion successfully defended his 2022 title over 60 meter hurdles in Glasgow in 7.29 seconds and was clearly the fastest. While the American Aleia Hobbs was transported away with tears in her eyes due to an injury immediately before the final, Julien Alfred from St. Lucia in the Caribbean was crowned world champion over 60 meters in 6.98 seconds. There was no German top placement in Scotland on Saturday evening. Triple jumper Max Heß from Chemnitz only reached ninth place with 16.66 meters. The victory went to Hugues Fabrice Zango from Burkina Faso with 17.53 meters.

Schotte provides a special highlight

To the great cheers of the fans, the Scot Josh Kerr surprisingly won over 3000 meters. It was the first world title by a European on this track in almost three decades. The American Elle St. Pierre won the women’s event. On Friday, shot putter Yemisi Ogunleye (Mannheim) won silver, Germany’s first medal at the World Indoor Championships since 2018.

High jumper Christina Honsel (Wattenscheid) and long jumper Simon Batz (Mannheim) got a taste of a medal on Saturday in fourth place. “The silver medal from Yemi, Christina yesterday with fourth place, even if it is of course a bit ungrateful at first, now my fourth place: This is a good team performance so far,” said the 21-year-old Batz after another eight-meter Leap. Long jumper Mikaelle Assani could surprise on Sunday. As second on the registration list, the 21-year-old from SCL Heel Baden-Baden has a chance of a top placement.
