The nomination list for the Golden Globes 2021 is here. In addition to "The Crown" and "Mank", Germany can also raise its hopes.

The 2021 awards season has finally begun. On February 3, "Sex and the City" stars Sarah Jessica Parker (55) and Taraji P. Henson (50) announced the actors and actresses, films and series that were nominated May raise hopes for a Golden Globe on February 28th. Unsurprisingly, "Mank" for the films and "The Crown" for the series are big favorites, each with six nominations.

Sound names in the film sector

"The Father", "Mank", "Nomadland", "Promising Young Woman" and "The Trail of the Chicago 7" are nominated in the king's category "Best Film (Drama)". Under the comedy and musical category there are "Borat 2", "Hamilton", "Music", "Palm Springs" and "The Prom". As expected, the favorites from the apron picked up their nominations. For best director are Emerald Fennell ("Promising Young Woman"), David Fincher ("Mank"), Regina King ("One Night in Miami"), Aaron Sorkin ("The Trail of the Chicago 7") and Chloé Zhao ( "Nomadland") was chosen.

The cast of actors who are in the running for a Golden Globe is also sonorous. The leading actresses in a drama are Frances McDormand ("Nomadland"), Carey Mulligan ("Promising Young Woman"), Vanessa Kirby ("Pieces of a Woman"), Viola Davis ("Ma Rainey's Black Bottom") and Andra Day (" The United States vs. Billie Holiday ") nominated.

Among the men, one nomination stands out in particular: the late "Black Panther" actor Chadwick Boseman was nominated posthumously for his role in "Ma Rainey's Black Bottom". Also in the running are Gary Oldman ("Mank"), Anthony Hopkins ("The Father"), Riz Ahmed ("Sound of Metal") and Tahar Rahim ("The Mauritanian").

The actresses who are recognized for their comedy or singing talents are in no way inferior. Here are Anya Taylor-Joy ("Emma"), Rosamund Pike ("I Care A Lot"), Michelle Pfeiffer ("French Exit"), Kate Hudson ("Music") and newcomer Maria Bakalova ("Borat 2") in Run. The male counterparts in the "Musical / Comedy" category are James Corden ("The Prom"), Sacha Baron Cohen ("Borat 2"), Lin-Manuel Miranda ("Hamilton"), Dev Patel ("The Personal History of David Copperfield ") and Andy Samberg (" Palm Springs ").

From a German point of view, the category "Best Supporting Actress in a Film" deserves special mention. Because this is where the twelve-year-old "Systemsprenger" star Helena Zengel finds herself again. The actress will appear in her role in "News of the World" alongside Tom Hanks against Glenn Close ("Hillbilly Elegy"), Olivia Colman ("The Father"), Jodie Foster ("The Mauritanian") and Amanda Seyfried ( "One can.

Good news for Germany

The nominations in the series categories also begin with good news for Germany: Maria Schrader's "Unorthodox" has been nominated as the best miniseries. But the competition is fierce: "The Queen's Gambit", "The Undoing", "Small Ax" and "Normal People" have to be left behind.

The German miniseries for the leading actresses has another award – Shira Haas is nominated for "Unorthodox". So do Nicole Kidman ("The Undoing"), Anya Taylor-Joy ("The Queen's Gambit"), Cate Blanchett ("Mrs. America") and Daisy Edgar-Jones ("Normal People). Among the men in this category are Bryan Cranston ("Your Honor"), Jeff Daniels ("The Comey Rule"), Hugh Grant ("The Undoing"), Ethan Hawke ("The Good Lord Bird") and Mark Ruffalo ("I Know This Much Is True") been chosen.

"The Crown" with great opportunities

Unsurprisingly, when it comes to the best drama series, "The Crown" comes out on top. The competition here is called "The Mandalorian", "Ozark", "Ratched" and "Lovecraft Country". Two "The Crown" stars have been nominated as "Best Actress": Olivia Colman as Queen and Emma Corrin as young Diana. The other actresses: Laura Linney ("Ozark"), Sarah Paulson ("Ratched") and Jodie Comer ("Killing Eve"). Helena Bonham Carter wins another nomination for "The Crown" in the "Best Supporting Actress" category.

With Al Pacino ("Hunters") a true Hollywood legend can hope for a Globe among the male leading actors in a drama series. Jason Bateman ("Ozark"), Josh O'Connor ("The Crown"), Bob Odenkirk ("Better Call Saul") and Matthew Rhys ("Perry Mason") could disagree with him.

This year's Golden Globes will take place on February 28th. Because of the ongoing corona pandemic, the award ceremony will be different than ever before: It has since been announced that the two moderators Tina Fey (50) and Amy Poehler (49) will be leading the evening thousands of kilometers apart. Fey on the east coast at Rockefeller Center in New York City, Poehler on the west coast and the traditional location of the Golden Globes, the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Los Angeles.
