The nominations for the Golden Globes 2022 have appeared and “Squid Game” has a good chance of winning several prizes. But a boycott hangs as a dark cloud over the award ceremony.

The awards season starts with the Golden Globes in January each year. The prizes, which are awarded by an international association of press members, often give a rough idea of the direction for the Oscars in February.
The Golden Globe Awards will be presented again in 2022, but for the first time the show will take place behind closed doors. US broadcaster NBC refuses to broadcast the award ceremony and the nominations that have now appeared are also being reported less than usual.
This is not due to a lack of interest, with awards ceremonies having to contend with falling quotas for years, but rather to a boycott. The HFPA (Hollywood Foreign Press Association) is accused of being corruptible and not very diverse.
Of course, the HFPA promised improvement, but currently several studios, such as Netflix, Amazon Studios and WarnerMedia, are no longer working with the HFPA. The reason why the list of nominees still has numerous prominent names is simple: The HFPA has changed the rules.
Previously, studios submitted films, directors, actors, etc. for a potential nomination, but the new regulation allows the HFPA to nominate all films and actors without any submission. For example, a Netflix film like “The Power of the Dog” can be nominated and win, although Netflix will actually completely ignore the Golden Globes this year.
