The 79th Golden Globe ceremony, the hallway to the Oscars, delivered its verdict on Sunday, January 9. This year, the event has a special flavor since it was not broadcast on American television.
Historic Golden Globes partner NBC has stepped down following revelations about the internal practices of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, which brings together Hollywood-based foreign press reporters.
Criticized for its governance, organization and recruitment, but above all for its lack of diversity in its ranks, the HFPA is thus in the midst of a crisis. Several media and artists had also let it be known that they intended to boycott the ceremony.
In addition, the health crisis which continues with more vigor ended up convincing the organizers to keep the ceremony behind closed doors, without stars or public. There was not even a livestream for the announcement of the winners. These were revealed on the Golden Globes website and on their social media.
The prize list is dominated by two feature films: The Power of the Dog by Jane Campion (Best Dramatic Film, Best Direction, Best Supporting Actor) and West Side Story by Steven Spielberg (Best Musical, Best Actress in a Comedy, Best Supporting Actor) ), each awarded with three trophies. To note that Jane campion succeeds Chloé Zhao (Nomadland) for the best achievement trophy.
