When Elon Musk looks to Germany, the billionaire has reason to be happy again: Tesla has secured first place in new registrations. It is by no means the first time that the US manufacturer is at the forefront of new electric cars. But there has never been such a victory.
Tesla presents VW: Model Y, Germany’s most popular car
The new registrations for September 2022 are out and they bring a real hit with them. electric car manufacturer Tesla makes it in Germany for the first time to provide the best-selling car of all time. The now particularly popular Model Y comes to 9,846 new registrations and thus even surpasses the VW Golf – for years the car par excellence of the Germans.
This victory is a real announcement for Volkswagen. With 7,095 units, the almost all-time leader this September was only able to secure second place for VW (source: Federal Motor Transport Authority). With a distance of well over 2,000 units, there can be no talk of a head-to-head race. Tesla beats VW by far.
With the Model Y, the e-car pioneer also won the SUV class and has that most successful electric car of the year 2022 so far on offer. The Model 3, on the other hand, is far from its previous highs. It’s still enough for first place in the middle class, but with 3,878 registered electric cars, Tesla’s former bestseller no longer even comes close to the current customer favourite.

Tesla increases production: annual target within reach?
