With its Envy Photo 6220, HP is trying to offer a gifted photo multifunction printer at a contained price. It will face tough competition, especially from Canon and its Pixma.

HP has succeeded with the Envy Photo 6220 — similar to the HP Envy Photo 6230 tested on Digital. This printer is quite versatile and overall convincing for its level of range. However, it is ahead in photography by the Canon Pixma TS6350, which also benefits from a more reasonable cost per page.
Strong points
- Convincing print quality.
- Second paper entry dedicated to small formats.
Weak points
- Low print speeds in automatic duplex mode.
- Very high cost per page (excluding Instant Ink).
- Slightly disappointing color drift for a “photo” printer.
NB: The reported price drop is calculated by comparing the lowest price of the day with the average of the lowest prices charged by all merchants for the product last month, with security rules to exclude prices from shops whose the VAT policy is not clear (known as “grey” shops, typically in the case of imports from China).

A budget printer is not necessarily synonymous with poor quality and Canon proves it with its Pixma MG3650S. Easy to set up, it offers borderless photo prints, with precise colorimetry and good quality in office automation. In addition, the cost of printing per page is low and there is even a two-sided mode, which is rather rare in this price range. We simply regret the rather slow print speeds, copies of limited quality and the absence of a touch control screen.
