Good deal – The LG 55A1 television at €731.99 (-20%)

The LG 55A1 is the most affordable Oled TV on the market. To arrive at such an aggressive price, this model is satisfied with a 50/60 Hz panel and ignores the HDMI 2.1 connection… while retaining the display qualities of the Oled.

If it is perfectly calibrated, the Oled LG 55A1 television makes a few too many concessions to stand out. It is thus necessary to be satisfied with a peak of brightness lower than that of other OLED televisions and also with a less efficient motion compensation engine, handicapped by the 50/60 Hz panel. It also ignores HDMI 2.1 4K 120 Hz and VRR, two essential features to get the most out of new game consoles. However, it remains an overall good television for films, series and even for the previous generation of consoles (PS4, Xbox One).

Strong points

  • Image quality in SDR and HDR.
  • Infinite contrast.
  • Viewing angles.
  • Reactivity.
  • Display delay.
  • Responsive webOS system.

Weak points

  • Peak brightness limited compared to that of other OLED models.
  • Motion compensation motor limited by the 50/60 Hz panel.
  • Lack of HDMI 2.1 VRR and ALLM compatibility.

NB: The reported price drop is calculated by comparing the lowest price of the day with the average of the lowest prices charged by all merchants for the product last month, with security rules to exclude prices from shops whose the VAT policy is not clear (known as “grey” shops, typically in the case of imports from China).

Alternatively

The Samsung Qled QE55Q80A — 55-inch (140 cm) version of the Samsung QE65Q80A that we tested — is a good LCD TV, but it suffers from a few minor flaws such as a perfectible HDR calibration, reduced viewing angles and a decent anti-reflective filter of an entry-level television – which is however a reference on more high-end Samsung televisions. Currently, there is still a good alternative to the more expensive 65-inch Oled televisions. With its HDMI 2.1 4K 120 Hz compatibility, VRR and its responsive 100 Hz panel, it even turns out to be an interesting choice for players who still doubt the reliability of Oled over the long term.
