The “e” in “essential” has never been worn so well. Samsung offers here a tablet that has all the weapons to establish itself as the best on the market. Helped by its Super AMOLED screen, the photo as well as a template as thin as it is light, it serves as the perfect alternative to the iPad and other Android tablets. It even manages to supplant the excellent Galaxy Tab S4 for a much lower price.

Strong points

  • weight and finesse.
  • The well-calibrated Super Amoled screen.
  • The fairly qualitative daytime photo for a tablet.
  • The excellent performance of the Snapdragon 670.
  • Autonomy.

Weak points

  • The crosstalk that “is strawberries”.
  • Low-light photo performance.

The world of touch pads has largely focused on the top of the range, with a number of products priced above €600. True to form, Xiaomi intends to offer a premium experience or almost at a very affordable price. The brand achieves this without any problem with its Pad 5, thanks in particular to a very well calibrated screen, more than satisfactory autonomy and good performance. We can of course regret a fixed refresh rate, a non-expandable storage space and the need to buy the stylus separately, which is nevertheless one of its assets. But overall, the device offers a seamless and enjoyable experience, and a convincing “official” debut for Xiaomi in the European tablet market.
