These 9million French people who forget the LEP

It is the best savings account on the market. With its remuneration of 6.1% net of tax and which will drop to 6% on August 1, the People’s Savings Account (LEP) yields twice as much as the Livret A whose rate remains blocked at 3% until January 2025.

Unlike the Livret A, which is accessible to all, the LEP is reserved for low-income households. 18.6 million French people are eligible for the People’s Savings Booklet, the Banque de France said on Tuesday. However, they are only 9.7 million to take advantage of it according to the latest statistics established in May.

Nearly 9 million individuals who have therefore still not opened a LEP. And yet, they are more interested than ever in doing so. Because in addition to its attractive remuneration, its payment ceiling will become even more interesting from October. It will be possible to deposit 10,000 euros, compared to 7,700 euros today. Electricity rates soar by 10% on August 1

Very bad news for consumers. The government announced on Tuesday a 10% increase in regulated electricity tariffs on 1 August. The previous increase dated back to February and amounted to 15%, after 4% in February 2022.
