France gives free condoms to people between 18 and 25 years old

Contraception isn’t just for women. And the condom is still the safest way to protect against communicable diseases. Since young people in particular are becoming increasingly infected with chlamydia, hepatitis B, herpes and other sexually transmitted diseases in France, the free condom is now intended to remedy the situation. French President Emmanuel Macron announced the good news himself.

After a conference on youth health in early December, he said: “Condoms will be available free of charge from January 1st, for everyone between the ages of 18 and 25,” said the President. “This is a small revolution in contraception. Our young people can now protect themselves more easily when they are sexually active.” Under 18s could already buy condoms free of charge, but only from the school nurse or in advice centers. With the new regulation, minors can also get condoms in the pharmacy.
