Apple has decided to put an end to its plan to develop an autonomous electric car. The announcement was made by company executives during a quick meeting with the relevant team. It appears the company is preparing to lay off hundreds of employees involved in the project, and all work related to the initiative has been suspended.
The Apple Car project, also known as the project name Titanwhich fueled conversations and rumors for a decade, was finally abandoned.
This decision was revealed by Mark Gurman of Bloomberg, indicating that the 2,000 employees assigned to the design of this electric vehicle were notified of the termination of the project. TechCrunch also confirmed the information.
Many of us have fantasized about the idea of Apple launching its own car, a concept that seems to align with the ambitions of other tech giants like Xiaomi and Huawei.
Apple’s project has had its ups and downs, there is the idea of a partnership with Volkswagen, of a completely autonomous car, before returning to the more terrestrial idea of an electric car, but with A steering wheel. Despite the billions injected and the prototypes already rolling in California, Apple has not managed to turn the corner, especially next to big names like Tesla or newcomers from Asia, like Sony, Nio, Xpeng and and so on.
