Goodbye idiots: what feat did this film achieve when it was released in theaters?

On the occasion of the first free-to-air broadcast of the film Adieu les cons Sunday September 11, 2022, from 9:05 p.m. on France 2, Télé Star reveals to you the feat achieved by this feature film at the time of its theatrical release.

Released in cinemas in 2020, the movie called Goodbye idiotsdirected by Albert Dupontelwill be broadcast for the first time unencrypted on French television on Sunday September 11, 2022, from 9:05 p.m. on France 2. Worn by Albert Dupontel, Virginie Efira and Nicolas Marie, this feature film features the character of Suze Trappet, portrayed on screen by Virginie Efira. This 43-year-old hairdresser learns that she has little time left to live because she has an autoimmune disease caused by the cosmetics she uses in her salon. She remembers her son she had at 15, having given birth under X under pressure from her parents. She then sets out to find him before dying.

At the administrative services, he is told that his file is not digitized, and that finding it can take several months. In the office next door, Jean-Baptiste Cuchas (known as JB), a computer genius played by Albert Dupontel, is about to commit suicide by leaving a filmed farewell message. This decision follows the choice of his hierarchical superiors to entrust the security of the computer system to people younger than him. But when trying to shoot himself with a wire connected to the trigger of a hunting rifle, he pulls too hard and the rifle turns over, damaging the adjacent wall, and seriously injuring the administrative officer who was handling Suze’s case.

Goodbye idiots: cinema exhibition disrupted by Covid-19

This feature film was released on October 21, 2020 in more than 620 theaters in France. It was then a special period for the cinema: because of the Covid-19 pandemic. At that time, theaters were under a curfew regime, forcing cinemas to close from 9 p.m. Despite these difficult conditions, Goodbye idiots ended its first week of operation at the top of the box office, with more than 600,000 spectators, signing the best start for a film directed by Albert Dupontel.

Due to the deterioration of sanitary conditions, cinemas had to close their doors on October 29, 2020 for an indefinite period. After only nine days of operation, Goodbye idiots already totaled 719,000 entries. On May 19, 2021, after a long period of uncertainty linked to the pandemic, cinemas are authorized to reopen. It is in more than 800 rooms thatGoodbye idiots resumes its operation. After a week, the film ranks again at the top of the box office with 513,000 additional admissions, enabling it to cross the bar of one million admissions. It finally reached 2 million admissions in France.
