Google has just made a radical decision regarding its strategy on the side of laptop top of the line. Indeed, the next Pixelbook has finally been purely and simply canceled!
The American firm should even completely abandon this very competitive sector.
A total surrender
As we know, the future of Google’s Pixelbook division was frequently questioned. However, the Californian company had confirmed its intention to offer new products in this category only a few months ago. A representative of the brand had even indicated to The Verge that many Pixelbooks were going to be created in the near future. Today, the story is radically different.
Thus, we learn that Google has just canceled the next version of its high-end laptop. Worse still, the entire team in charge of the project was dismantled. The employees were reportedly transferred to other divisions of the company. We can therefore assume that the multinational has chosen to abandon this sector entirely. A decision that fits perfectly with the new strategy described by Sundar Pichai, the CEO of the firm.
To focus on the essentials
Recently, the boss of Google just mentioned a significant slowdown in recruitment, but also a more global restructuring of his teams. For this, the deletion of certain projects had been mentioned in a desire to ” redeploy resources to higher priority areas “. To put it simply, Google wants to bet exclusively on what pays off… and Pixelbooks are unfortunately the latest victims of this new policy.
So we know the sad epilogue of a story that began in 2013 with the launch of the Chromebook Pixel. Four years later, the first Pixelbook hit the market. It was then sold as a high-end alternative ($999) to traditional Chromebooks. Finally, the Pixelbook Go (a more affordable version) introduced in 2019 is Google’s latest attempt in this area.
