Google formalizes its Pixel 6a, the more affordable version of the Pixel 6, but just as attractive.
On the occasion of its major Google I/O 2022 conference, Google has just unveiled the Pixel 6a, a mid-range version of the Pixel 6 launched this fall. As expected, this smartphone shows a less ambitious technical sheet but, good news, it uses the same Tensor chip as the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro. Its functions are also identical despite its lower price of 449 dollars (the price in euros is not yet known).
A Pixel 6 that comes in three colors
Google uses the same design as the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro. The aesthetic is still as divisive (with a two-tone appearance), but this time in three colors (black, white and green).
The new Pixel 6a is equipped with a 6.1-inch screen, compared to 6.4 inches for its cousin the Pixel 6. The refresh rate of the smartphone decreases and goes to 60 Hz, compared to 90 Hz on the more expensive version. The screen is covered with Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protective glass, while the Pixel 6 has a higher standard.
If the chip is the same, the Pixel 6a is a little less efficient in photos. the way of an iPhone SE at Apple, the Pixel 6a recycles the sensors of the old models. We find that of the Pixel 5a on the Pixel 6, the IMX 363 of 12.2 megapixels (which has long proven itself). The smartphone also has an ultra wide angle, like the Pixel 6 (the IMX 386), which makes it versatile. Of course, the most important thing at Google is the software. The Pixel 6a has the same functions as the Pixel 6, which should make photos sublime.
On the battery side, Google promises a day of autonomy. The Pixel 6a has a 4,400 mAh battery, compared to 4,614 mAh on the Pixel 6. The smartphone is 5G compatible.
The Google Pixel 6a will be released this summer and will be priced at $449 compared to $599 for the Pixel 6, the price in euros is not yet known but we will quickly update this article when the information is available. We can regret such a late availability: the pre-order begins on July 21.
