Google Assistant is preparing a trick to understand you even better

A new option should land in Google Assistant to better understand the proper names and the words you pronounce regularly for more personalized interactions.

The more technology improves, the smarter voice assistants become. Google Assistant is obviously no exception to this rule and should soon even better understand the specifics of your way of speaking.

By breaking down the APK code of the Google Assistant application, 9to5Google found traces of a potential new feature called “Personalized speech recognition” in English. This translates into French as “Personalized Voice Recognition”.

Better understand each person

What does it consist of? A few descriptive sentences prepared by Google shed light on our lantern. We learn in particular that this option allows the voice assistant to “better recognize your frequent words and names“.

Store audio recordings on this device to help Google Assistant better recognize what you say. The audio remains on this device and can be removed at any time by disabling personalized speech recognition.

Concretely, with this option activated, Google Assistant should be able to locally refine its voice recognition models on your device to best adapt them to your interactions. By better understanding the proper names and words you use frequently, it could, for example, allow you to send messages to a contact with more guarantees of avoiding mistakes or the wrong recipient.

Smartphone, tablet, Nest Hub?

A paragraph states that “if you disable this option, your Assistant will be less accurate in recognizing names and other words you say frequently. All audio files used to improve speech recognition for you will be deleted from this device“.

It remains to be seen whether we will see this option one day and whether it will be possible in all languages. Theoretically, the option could be deployed on a smartphone as well as on a tablet or a connected speaker. Remember in passing that Google Assistant on Nest Hub will need a simple look from you to activate.
