Google Assistant on the Samsung Galaxy Watch 4: it’s coming soon!

On the sidelines of the Google I/O which took place yesterday, Samsung announces that Google Assistant will arrive this summer on its Galaxy Watch 4. An evolution of Wear OS 3, the Android operating system for connected watches which will also arrive on the Pixel Watch from Google.

While the Google I/O took place yesterday, with, among other things, the presentation of the Pixel Watch, Samsung is taking advantage of the event to announce that Google Assistant will arrive on its Galaxy Watch 4 this summer, one year after the release of the connected watch. A fairly logical arrival, since the Pixel Watch will also have the Google Assistant application.

Galaxy Watch 4 users will soon be able to download Google Assistant

Released on August 27, 2021, the Galaxy Watch 4 was the first to take advantage of Wear OS 3, the operating system dedicated to connected watches. An OS that was the result of the merger and collaboration of Wear OS and Tizen, developed by Samsung. When it was released, there was no Google Assistant, at least at first, we were told. However, there was indeed a voice assistant on the Watch 4: Bixby, designed by Samsung.

But happy news, last February Samsung announced a series of new features for its connected watches, including the arrival of Google Assistant, undated. It’s now done: Google Assistant will be downloadable in a future update on the Galaxy Watch 4 and Galaxy Watch 4 Classic “this summer“. You can therefore choose Google Assistant (or Bixby, you never know) as the default voice assistant on your watch.

An arrival of Google Assistant which was not sure at all a few weeks ago. At the end of April, Google said that no Google Assistant integration was planned on Samsung’s latest watches.

Among the uses that will be possible, Samsung gave the example of Spotify control: you can change songs by voice by speaking to your watch. This is the only example given by the manufacturer for the moment, but it announces that, later in the year, “even more Google apps and services will be optimized for Galaxy Watches“.
