Google Chat, the messaging app that is part of Google’s Workspace suite, is about to get a new feature that will allow users to chat with their voice.
After having long lagged behind its competitors, Google Chat is finally set to add a feature that will allow users to send and receive voice messages, which is common to many other messaging applications, such as Facebook Messenger, WhatsApp, Telegram and Google Messages.
Voicemail will be easy to use and will work in both the Google Chat app and the Gmail app, which also has Google Chat built-in. Users will just have to tap the microphone icon next to the text field and image icon and then start speaking.

How will the new option on Google Chat work?
After pressing the microphone button, users will then see a waveform generated as the app picks up their voice. They will also have the opportunity to pause or cancel the recording, or send it if they are happy with it. The good news is that voice messages will be encrypted and can only be listened to by you and the recipient.
The voicemail feature will be a welcome addition to Google Chat, since messaging is used by many businesses. It will allow users to communicate more easily and quickly with colleagues, customers and partners, especially when they are on the move or need to convey more emotion or nuance than with a simple text message.
As per usual, This function is not yet publicly available and is still in the testing phase. It was discovered by activating certain “flags” in the application, which are hidden parameters allowing experimental functions to be activated.
So the release date for this feature is not yet known, but Google has said that it will launch in the first quarter of this year during its Google Cloud Next event in December 2023, which means that we should see appear in the coming months.
