Google Chat, the solution that replaced Hangouts in 2022, got a makeover as you may know in December 2023. Indeed, the messaging service integrated into Gmail went through the Material You mill like the vast majority of applications from the Mountain View firm. Since this date, users can benefit from a new shortcut bar at the bottom of the screen from which they can access the Home, Messages, Spaces and Mentions sections. Let’s remember in passing that Google Messages also had the right to a makeover a few days ago.

Now that the design issue has been resolved on Google Chat, the Mountain View firm has resumed the deployment of new features.

Google Chat finally allows you to favorite messages

As our colleagues at 9To5Google report, the latest app version 2024.01.21.x includes a welcome feature. Indeed, users can now favorite a message on the Android version of Google Chat (soon on iOS).

To do this, simply long press on a message in a conversation and click the Star – Favorite option. Of course, it will be possible to do this for all messages, both yours and those of your recipients. To find your favorite exchanges, simply press the three horizontal points located in the floating bar at the bottom of the screen.

Here, under the Mentions, a new Favorites tab has appeared. Click on it to find all of the favorite messages. For now, it seems that this new version of Google Chat for Android is being deployed. On the Google Play Store, the last update dates from January 24, 2024. In fact, you will probably have to wait a little before seeing it land on your device. Let us recall in passing that this message favorite feature is already present in certain competitors of Google Chat such as Microsoft Teams in particular.
