Annotating web pages could soon be made possible on the Navigator
Google Chrome, without knowing when.

It is currently only at the idea stage for the Chrome development team, but such an integration could be welcome.

Thanks Reddit for the works

Annotating web pages is not a new thing. We have undoubtedly all already been able to see this thanks to extensions, on Google Chrome precisely. But for now, the browser has never implemented such native functionality, whether on computer or on smartphone and tablet.

For the moment, don’t expect to be able to test the annotation of web pages on the Canary version of Chrome, since nothing like this has been made public by Google: everything is only at the idea stage and so there is no guarantee that it will ever happen to us. But as a ray of hope, we can quote Leopeva62-2 on Reddit, quite famous in discovering future features on Chrome and Edge, who mentioned these recent changes in Google’s browser code:

“Finds the list of all WebContents currently open for the profile associated with the UserNoteService. The service will use this information to retrieve relevant notes from storage and add highlights to web pages.

The note creation UX should be displayed in the UI layer. |bounds| matches the location on the web page where the associated highlight is located and should be compared to existing notes in the UI to determine where the new note should be inserted.

Implementation of FocusNote, which will be called by UserNoteService, tells the user note side panel to scroll the corresponding note in the side panel. »

All this therefore gives us an idea of Google’s desire to add the feature. But it all ends there, since we have no idea how exactly it will work.

Google Chrome

  • Very good performance
  • Simple and pleasant to use
  • A secure browser

Google Chrome no longer has to prove its qualities as a stable, fluid, fast, secure, ergonomic and multifunctional browser. Its interface and its mode of use are suitable for all audiences, inexperienced as informed. Criteria that still allow it today to dominate the market on a global scale, and to pursue development that inspires new web standards. But Chrome is not immune to a much less formidable aspect: the collection and commercialization of personal data by the browser which makes it a serious threat to the privacy of Internet users, all the more so when used in conjunction with other Google services. If respect for confidentiality must, for you, take precedence over the rest, we advise you to turn to Brave or Firefox, more reliable alternatives with satisfactory performance.
